Ridley Scott is to return to helm another Alien film. The man, who made, arguably, the best horror movie of all time with the 1979 original, will return to the franchise that ultimately lost its way after the action packed James Cameron-directed sequel, Aliens. According to the folk at Variety, the new film will be a direct prequel. While nothing else is known about the plot, it is to be written by newbie scribe, Jon Spaihts, who pitched an idea to Fox and Scott Free, the production company Ridley runs with his director brother, Tony. There had been rumours for many years that Scott would ultimately return to the franchise that really made him an A-list director, but nothing concrete had happened, until now. It goes without saying that this is marvelous news - we now await the casting of Russell Crowe as a surly android.
