After Kevin Hart stepped aside from hosting the Oscars over homophobic jokes the comedian made in the past, the Academy is now scrambling to find a replacement.

They may not have to look too far, if they so choose, as Ricky Gervais has put himself forward as replacement. In a tweet aimed at the board of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Gervais opened the tweet by referring to them as the C-word.

Of course, Ricky Gervais is no stranger to hosting award ceremonies and previously did the Golden Globes in 2010, 2011, 2012, and again in 2016 where he went after he publicly insulted Mel Gibson - literally to the guy's face.

In fact, Gervais said afterwards that he had planned a particularly offensive joke about Gibson and a Nazi uniform that was deemed to far by the event's organisers. Of course, there's about as much chance as Gervais hosting the Oscars as there is anyone reading this being offered the job - a point that Gervais made in his own fashion later on in the day.

As it stands, AMPAS have so far not issued any statement on Kevin Hart or the replacement host - so expect there to be news on this front in the coming days and weeks.

The Oscars take place on February 25th, 2019.
