There's a new documentary on the horizon that is a definite no-no for the ex-Iron Curtain crowd in Russia. A Pussy Riot documentary, Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer has been given the definite go ahead and even has a UK release date as of now-5 July.

In 2012 three young Russian women protested the questionable political state of their nation by singing a riot song in a cathedral, leading to their arrest due to the stringent laws against self expression. The film will tell the story of the three young feminists, banded together in a group named Pussy Riot, and the story that continues to cause global outrage.

Filmed over six months, the documentary has been directed and produced by Mike Lerner (Afghan Star, Hell and Back Again) and Maxim Pozdorovkin (Capital), and features musicians Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich.

Producers promise "unparalleled access and exclusive footage, Lerner and Pozdorovkin's Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer looks at the real people behind their now famous colourful balaclavas." It already has the accolade of World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award for Punk Spirit from Sundance, so clearly it brings out the hardcore in all.
