Ben Drew has just scored the co-lead role in the much-mooted big screen adapation of The Sweeney, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The man otherwise known as Plan B will play George Carter, who Dennis Waterman played in the original ITV series about London's Flying Squad. Ray Winstone will take over from the late, great John Thaw as no-nonsense copper, Jack Regan. Nick Love, who has made a series of gritty cockney flicks like The Business and The Football Factory is calling the shots from his own script.

Anyone who is thinking this is just another artist trying to be an actor should take a look at Harry Brown - Drew is excellent in that. Granted, the fact that he looks a bit rough anyway helped him play an undesirable, so it'll be interesting to see the transition to being a member of the fuzz for this film.
