It was the Martin Luther King holiday weekend this week in America, and the African American holiday proved a sizeable one for the box-office. Topping the charts was the Kevin James-led comedy Paul Bart: Mall Cop, which coined an unexpectedly large $33.8 million, taking the number one spot from Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino, which held second with an impressive $22.2 million. Opening in third was the 3D horror My Bloody Valentine with $21.9 million, while Notorious, the biopic of the late rapper The Notorious BIG, was close behind with $21.5 million. The second canine-related comedy in as many months, Hotel For Dogs, also did stellar business with $17.7 million - a number which is expected to rise considerably when today's figures are announced.
