Michael Fassbender is director Jose Padilha's number one choice to play the new version of RoboCop, reports Bleeding Cool.

The director spoke about the reboot saying "We're just delivering the project, but also we depend on the schedule of the actors. It's tough. I can't talk yet, it's too early to speak, but there are some actors I like. I really like Fassbender, I'll talk to him. There's a possibility, and there's a lot of other great actors that would play RoboCop. But that's the idea, to film around January, February, March."

Darren Aronofsky was originally attached to direct the film, which fell through because of MGM's financial woes. He then moved on to Black Swan. Padilha has directed the hit Brazilian flicks, Elite Squad and its sequel. Fassbender is fast becoming 'Plan A' for studios looking for an edgy lead star. He has the films Shame and A Dangerous Mind awaiting release.
