Michael Bay is producing a pandemic thriller because, apparently, that's just what we need right now.

The movie is titled 'Songbird' and Adam Mason ('Blood River', 'The Devil's Chair') is directing off a screenplay he co-wrote with Simon Boyes ('Misconduct').

It should attract that YA audience anyway with 'Riverdale's KJ Apa and Sofia Carson ('Descendants', 'Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists') headlining it.

That's not all who's in the cast either as Demi Moore, Bradley Whitford, and Craig Robinson also star. So too do Jenna Ortega, Paul Walter Hauser and Peter Stormare.

'Songbird' takes place two years into the future. A lockdown has been re-established as "a virus" mutates.

To contain the disease, the city has been divided into 'haves' and 'have nots'.

Apa plays a delivery man who has been deemed an "essential worker", with a rare immunity. Carson plays his girlfriend, who's in lockdown in her home.

Because of the virus, they can't be physically together.

The synopsis from Deadline reads: "To be with the one he loves, he must overcome martial law, murderous vigilantes and a powerful, well connected family, helmed by a matriarch (Demi Moore) who will stop at nothing to protect her family and maintain her way of life."

Filming for 'Songbird' kicked off last Wednesday in Los Angeles.
