The Oscar anthem is playing not too far off in the distance in anticipation of De Niro and Streep's team up for their next film, The Good House. The two highly accoladed actors have five Academy Awards and sixteen Oscar nominations between them, and are both considered among the most influential actors of all time. Teaming the two of them up is a bit like creating some giant transformer robot of unbeatable strength; no other actor or film can really compete against them.
Their first paring together was in 1979's The Deer Hunter, one of their most beloved films, follwed by another project together six years later in Falling in Love. Their last collaboration was in 1996 with Marvin's Room. Now, not that anyone can complain given the amount of incredible films he has produced (in acting terms that is), but maybe this reunion will rekindle the acting buzz in De Niro that seems to have faded in his later years. He may have continued, but has favoured mediocre film choices in many a case (though since Silver Linings Playbook, things seem to have picked up). Will Meryl save the day? Her golden age is still full throttle, even Mamma Mia guys.
The Good House is based on an Anne Leary novel of the same name and tells the story of an alcoholic (Streep) wavering between sobriety and a life of complete inebriation. De Niro will play her ex-lover on the scene again. With Michael Cunningham at the helm of the film as scriptwriter, it looks like another chance to bask in glory for the duo.
