Will Smith's first blockbuster in four years, Men in Black 3, has topped the North American box-office, but still underperformed.

The expensive flick coined $55 million in its opening three days and somewhere in the region of $70 million for the four day American holiday weekend. The grosses are late coming in because today is still a big day in terms of box-office. Worldwide it was better news as it took a combined gross of $200 plus million. The stunning weather in Western Europe would not have helped with putting bums in seats, so that's even more impressive. Still, given the bloated cost of seeing a film in 3D combined with Smith's star power, it could and should have been more.

Hollywood was predicting a gross closer to $90 million domestically, so insiders are looking at this as more of a disappointment than slam dunk. Especially giving Smith's penchant for headlining franchises and going for the broader audience.
