David O Russell (Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees) is reportedly in advanced negotiations to direct Matthew McConaughey in The Grackle. The script was subject to a bidding war a couple of year's back, with the now defunct New Line ultimately picking up the rights. McConaughey will finally try something other than perpetual romantic comedy player in a film about a barroom brawler who charges $250 to settle disputes for people who can't afford to hire a lawyer. It sounds like a really funny idea, as is described as an "R-rated comedy, very much in the mode of Wedding Crashers," by Variety. I've always stated that McConaughey has ability, he just chose more often than not to avoid parts that required him to use it. This does sound like good fun, and hopefully the 'O Russell that directed Three Kings shows up, not the quasi-pretentious assclown who shat out I Heart Huckabees.
