Think Hollywood is the hallmark home of cinema? Well it's moving over to make way for a burgeoning international demand for world cinema that represents a wider perspective, such as Bollywood film in India. This weekend, Dublin celebrates the biggest film producing nation with the Indian Film Festival of Ireland.
From Friday 7th June to 10th, Bollywood Ireland ltd will put the spotlight on the cinema that makes over 800 films per year approximately by screening some of its most loved pictures and giving an Irish audience the chance to critically engage and learn about something outside the ordinary realms of western cinema.
Bollywood Ireland ltd is a film, television production and distribution company owned by Siraj Zaidi, an actor from India who trained at the London Academy of Dramatic Arts.The festival is of international standards and run by a dedicated team based in Ireland. Topics such as Director in Focus, Star in Retrospective, Debut director will be discussed, as well as the offer of networking and master classes.
This year’s Indian Blockbuster movie Vishwaroop will premiere at the festival. The major hit Ek Tha Tiger, shot partly in Dublin, will also be screened. Over the four days there will be a blend of classic films such as Passage to India, modern favourites like like OMG - Oh My God and documentaries that give insight into real Indian life. Indian film stars such as Lubna Salim will attend. Not only this but the festival will host a gala award ceremony and dinner in Trinity with the funds raised going to an educational charitable cause.
