Fans of Alex the lion (Ben Stiller), Marty the zebra (Chris Rock), Melman the giraffe (David Schwimmer) and Gloria the hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith) will be delighted.

Heyuguys broke the news following their interview with Tom McGrath. McGrath, currently promoting his latest film The Boss Baby, directed all three Madagascar movies (released in 2005, 2008 and 2012 respectively).

McGrath said: “I love the cast, I love those characters, they are like my children in a way.” He continued: “There are things in the works, nothing is announced yet, but I think they’ll show their faces once more…”

McGrath also provides the voice of Skipper, the leader of the penguins of the franchise who have had their own spin-off movie.

Madagascar has proven to be a highly profitable series for Dreamworks, having now grossed over $1.8 billion.

The news comes around the same time as developments for the new Shrek movie, another Dreamworks product, also emerge.
