Francis Lawrence, who last helmed Will Smith starrer I Am Legend, has signed on to develop and direct comic book adaptation, Sgt. Rock. According to Heat Vision, Lawrence has come onboard after a barrage of other names, including Guy Ritchie, attempted and failed to get it made whilst keeping the World War II setting. Lawrence's version will instead have a contemporary war setting, which will help to keep the budget down. I'm not familiar with the comic, which began in 1959, but the story of a man who has fought in every major conflict of his time sounds like a damn fine recipe for action.
