Johnny Knoxville is closing a deal to join The Farrelly Brothers long-gestating Three Stooges movie, according to Variety.

Knoxville has been linked with several comedy projects after the huge box-office success of Jackass 3D, but this would be a huge step forward for him. The Farrelly's and studio Fox want Knoxville to play Moe Howard in the film, which would be split into 3 - each part 27 minutes long, to embody the spirit of the show a bit more. Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro and Jim Carrey were all attached previously before it fell apart.

Knoxville has previously worked with them when they produced the comedy film, The Ringer.  Filming should begin in April when the other roles are cast.Â
