Kevin Costner is in advanced negotiations to join the cast of the Quentin Tarantino western, Django Unchained, reports Deadline.

Costner is in talks to play a character named Ace Woody, who is the "sadistic trainer" of the male fighting slaves who "entertain the white patrons of Candyland club and ranch, as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes." Kevin Costner playing a pimp? This may be the first risky role he's ever taken with his career - although he did play a serial killer in Mr. Brooks, but that was crap. Tarantino apparently said he wanted to work with more "movie stars" hence this weighty cast.

Costner would join a pretty incredible list of names that already includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Samuel L Jackson and Christoph Waltz. The Bodyguard star also just joined new Superman film, The Man of Steel
