Dredd was one of those movies that whimpered when introduced to a broad audience (despite being very good) but has since garnered some serious cult attention from a passionate fan base.

Star of the film Karl Urban is constantly asked about a sequel and this passing weekend dropped that instead of a sequel, the follow-up film might actually be a prequel.

He spewed when asked about another film where he'd sport the iconic helmet,  "Why yes, there is a definite possibility. But, it is more likely that we will do the origins story with Dredd trekking through the cursed earth to find the first Chief Judge Fargo."

The first film is well worth a watch; super violent, super simple and a lot of fun. Despite that it only grossed $35 million at the global box-office. If they can keep costs down and given the passionate fan base, there's no reason a studio wouldn't take a punt.
