Although it's small in the grand scheme of it, we should be knee-deep in Oscar movies at cinemas if things were normal.

In fact, we'd have already got a list of our Oscar predictions and somewhere near the top would be 'Judas and the Black Messiah', just on the strength of the cast alone.

Lakeith Stanfield, Daniel Kaluuya, Jesse Plemons, and Martin Sheen star in this biopic drama-thriller about the FBI infiltration of the Illinois Black Panther Party, led by Fred Hampton. Stanfield plays career criminal William O'Neal, who is manipulated by Jesse Plemons' FBI agent to join the Black Panthers and get close to their leader, played by Daniel Kaluuya.

Expecting to be joining a band of terrorists, he discovers that they're providing free breakfasts for children, legal services, medical clinics and research into sickle cell anemia, and political education, as well as attempting to form a grand coalition with other disaffected communities in the Chicago area.

Of course, as things begin to escalate, those in the Black Panthers begin to suspect O'Neal, while the FBI and the local police begin to push back harder against the social movement, ending in a brutal raid carried out by the police and the FBI in 1969.

There's still no word yet when 'Judas and the Black Messiah' will be released in Irish cinemas, but for now, here's the new trailer.
