He's chasing down Sean Penn in Gangster Squad at present but it won't be long before Josh Brolin takes a jaunt to a very different Sin City. The actor has just signed on to take over from Clive Owen as Dwight in the follow up to the 2005 adaptation of Frank Miller's comic book series.

He'll play a younger version of Dwight, the errr, knight in shining armour (if you could call him that), who helped a gang of prostitutes fight off a set of brutal mercenaries in the first installment. And if you're wondering how they plan to explain his new face, never fear! Collider reports that the studio has got it covered.

“Dwight is one of the favourite characters from Miller’s books and the 2005 film. In Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, Dwight is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord, and then watches his life go straight to hell. Chronologically, this story takes place prior to The Big Fat Kill and explains how Dwight came to have a dramatically different face” they wrote, in the press release announcing his casting. Co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller released a joint statement about the new casting. “Dwight is a constant character throughout the Sin City world and A Dame To Kill For is a defining episode in his life. We’re looking forward to Josh’s take on Dwight.”

Mickey Rourke, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rosario Dawson and Jessica Alba will all co-star in the film which is due to hit US cinemas on October 4th.
