I reported yesterday that Spike Lee had been confirmed as the director of the American Old Boy remake, and now the filmmakers have upped the search for a leading man.

Twitchfilm are saying that the studio and Lee are strongly pursuing Josh Brolin to star in the film, with the names of Idris Elba (who seems to be linked with everything nowadays) and Aaron Eckheart also being mooted in the same breath. It does seem that the always watchable Brolin is first choice, and now that his name has been mentioned, it'd be hard to see anyone else playing the part. I'm half shocked Denzel Washington hasn't already been cast to be honest and he may have been a good fit in fairness.

Regardless of who bags the lead role, it's obvious that production on this film is now moving at pace which means we should see some confirmed names pop up soon.
