British director Edgar Wright will call the shots on Johnny Depp starrer, The Night Stalker, reports Deadline.

The Scott Pilgrim Vs The World and Shaun of the Dead director will helm the big screen feature adaptation of the cult ABC TV movie, with Depp acting as producer and nurturing the project as it makes it way to the big screen. The original starred Darren McGavin, playing a character who (via Deadline) "covered crime for a tabloid and his cases always led to supernatural perpetrators that included zombies, vampires, werewolves and aliens. Of course, neither his editor nor anyone else would believe him or allow him to run what seemed like outrageous stories. But Kolchak would put himself in grave danger each episode." Depp is apparently a huge fan and very keen for it to happen ASAP.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star is currently heavily prepping The Lone Ranger, which is due to go in front of cameras pronto.
