Currently on a run of big budget flops after The Lone Ranger and Transcendence bombed, Johnny Depp is apparently in negotiations to star as famed magician Harry Houdini in Galaxy Quest director Dean Parisot's The Secret Life of Houdini.

According to THR, the flick will be "in the vein of Indiana Jones," as Houdini bounces around the place investigating the occult and whatnot.

While Depp has had two high profile flops, he's currently working on the ace sounding Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass with Crazy Heart and Out of the Furnace director Scott Cooper and has sequels to both Pirates of the Caribbean and Alice in Wonderland in development (urgh). The former would be seen as a 'one for me' the latter two firmly to get the box office numbers back up.

Parisot is somewhat of a journeyman helmer, having worked on the likes of Red 2 and a lot of TV - namely the ace series Justified.
