Joe Johnson has been confirmed as the man who will bring Captain America back to life, having been announced by Marvel as their first choice to start the much mooted franchise. He has tons of effects heavy experience having directed the likes of Jurassic Park 3 and Jumanji, but his best work came in the excellent October Sky, which starred a young Jake Gyllenhaal. The helmer was a last minute replacement for Mark Romanek on the big budgeted Wolf Man, and Marvel were impressed enough with his work to offer him the Captain America gig. Marvel President Kevin Feige said: This is a guy who designed the vehicles for Star Wars, who storyboarded the convoy action sequence for Raiders of the Lost Ark." He then added: "From Rocketeer to October Sky to The Wolfman, you can look at pieces of his movies and see how they lead to this one." He can handle action extremely well and is the epitome of reliability, but this will still be seen as a surprise by fans of the hero who were hoping on a more blockbuster friendly name.
