The TV movie, which is currently untitled, will portray the rise and fall of Blanco, a notorious drug lord who revolutionised the US drug trade during the 1970s and 1980s. Blanco became the most powerful female cartel member of all time.

'The Cocaine Godmother' was also the subject of documentary feature Cocaine Cowboys in 2006.

Jennifer Lopez is signed up to play the lead and to executive produce the project.

She said in a statement: ‘I’ve been fascinated by the life of this corrupt and complicated woman for many years. The idea of teaming with HBO felt like the perfect fit for finally bringing Griselda’s story to life.’

JLo can currently be seen on American small screens in crime drama Shades of Blue. She was also a judge on American idol.

It would seem that Jenny’s roots ‘from the block’ have helped in her career again.
