Jennifer Lopez has come back in a big way in the past year.

She kicked ass in that Super Bowl performance alongside Shakira. And she was just fabulous in the movie 'Hustlers', which we still insist she was robbed out of an Oscar nomination for. (I mean, sure, Kathy Bates was great in 'Richard Jewell', but it was a total cop out on the part of the Academy)

The movie was based on a group of strippers who rob from a bunch of stock traders and CEOs in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. It ended up being a huge hit for STX Entertainment.

Lopez is collaboraing with the studio on this next film too.

'The Godmother' will see the singer-actress play real-life Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco, aka La Madrina. The feature will track the us and downs of  Blanco's life; from her impoverished childhood to becoming one of the world's biggest criminals.

She was active from the 1980s to 2000s, and played a particularly big role in Miami's vicious Cocaine Cowboy Wars. She was killed in 2012 at the age of 69.

The latest on 'The Godmother' is that Reed Morano is set to direct.

Morano previously helmed the highly acclaimed series 'The Handmaid's Tale'. She also directed the Blake Lively thriller 'The Rhythm Section', which is on demand now.

Oscar-winning screenwriter William Monahan ('The Departed') is also in talks to rewrite a first draft of the project's screenplay, which was originally penned by Terry Winter ('The Sopranos', 'The Wolf of Wall Street') and Regina Corrado ('Deadwood', 'Sons of Anarchy').

With that crew and Jennifer Lopez (also a producer) attached, this is going to be a big one.
