My favourite actress working at the moment, Winter's Bone (and soon to be X-Men: First Class star) Jennifer Lawrence is nearing the highly sought after lead role in book adaptation, Hunger Games, reports Darkhorizons.com.

The possible franchise of films is being mooted as the next Twilight, after the series of books the flicks would be based on hit paydirt. The story involves a young love triangle playing out against a dystopian future where North America has been divided into twelve oppressed districts, each of which is forced to send tribute in the form of a boy and a girl to compete in a televised battle to the death once a year. Lawrence's fellow 2011 Oscar nominee, Hailee Steinfeld and talented youngster Abigail Breslin have also been heavily linked with role. Lawrence auditioned for the role of Bella Swan in Twilight, but Kristen Stewart bagged the part.

Seabiscuit helmer Gary Ross is directing the film.
