So there was silly old me thinking that the glue that held the world of Avatar together was the upstanding moral compasses of Jake and Neytiri and all of the other good guys, when all the time it was old meanie Colonel Miles Quaritch.

Stephen Lang, the actor who played the villainous security head in the multi-Oscar winning movie has been signed up by director James Cameron to reprise his role in all three Avatar sequels.

It's hard to say in what context will he reappear since he seemed to be quite, well, dead at the end of the original but hey, it's Cameron's baby and he can do whatever he wants with it.

Speaking with Deadline Cameron declared, "Steven was so memorable in the first film, we're privileged to have him back. I'm not going to say exactly how we're bringing him back, but it's a science fiction story, after all. His character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of our new three-film saga. I really look forward to working with such a gifted actor, who's also become a good friend."

Avatar 2 is set to begin shooting in October 2014 with Cameron shooting the three sequel back to back. The second installment release is expected in December 2016 with the third and forth scheduled for 2017 and 2018.
