And thank God for it, too.

Morgan Creek, the studio behind such films as Ace Ventura, Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, Young Guns and (gulp) Battlefield: Earth, recently hired a investment banking group to help sell of the domestic rights to its libraries of films so that it can fund future productions of their films. It's understood that whoever buys the domestic rights also buys the remake rights of the films - which is where the plot thickens.

Rumours began to circulate that a remake of The Exorcist was on the cards, which naturally drew negative reactions from both fans and Friedkin himself. The veteran director took to Twitter to voice his concerns and slam Morgan Creek for attempting to remake his work and the crap sequels they put out.

"I COMPLETELY denounce denounce a remake of The Exorcist by Morgan Creek," Friedkin said in one tweet. Now, however, it seems there's finally a bit of good news. Morgan Creek issued a statement via Twitter that put an end to the rumours once and for all.

Interestingly, Friedkin responded to this with another tweet, intimating that Morgan Creek isn't in a position to confirm this.

So what does it all mean? In the grand scheme of things, not a whole lot. We're assuming Friedkin has a clause that prevents anyone touching The Exorcist, which is a good thing. The very idea of trying to remake The Exorcist, especially in today's climate is obscene.

You simply couldn't recreate The Exorcist today and, worse still, there's absolutely no way a shot-for-shot remake would get past today's censors. Moreover, the film's pretty much perfect as it is. Why bother trying to top it?
