Rumours are circling the interweb today that one Robert Downey Jr. is to take over the role of Lestat in a new film in The Vampire Chronicles, originally penned by Anne Rice. Both Tom Cruise and Irishman Stuart Townsend have played the character before in Interview with a Vampire and Queen of the Damned, but according to Bloodydisgusting.com Downey Jr. is currently the man they want to take over the pointy-tooted immortal. The Iron Man star has just wrapped production on a sequel to that film, while blockbuster-in-waiting Sherlock Holmes will be released in cinemas just after Christmas. It would be slick casting, but you could say that about Downey Jr. in almost anything.
