Irish director Brian Kirk is reportedly "deep" in negotiations to direct a second instalment of Marvel superhero, Thor.

According Variety, Armagh native Kirk, who has helmed numerous episodes of HBO series Game of Thrones, is the front runner to take over the franchise - which is thus far the top grossing comic adaptation of the summer. Warner Bros did something very similar by getting State of Play director David Yates to helm several Harry Potter instalments when he'd never tackled anything remotely that size before. He's now being linked with numerous big budgeted Hollywood productions.

Kirk is yet to be confirmed as the director, but a deal should still be imminent. Thor 2 will apparently be larger in scale with more characters.
