Yorgos Lanthimos' period drama 'The Favourite', which lists Irish production banner Element Pictures among its producer, has picked up two prestigious awards at the Venice Film Festival.

Olivia Colman won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress whilst the movie itself was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the prestigious festival, now in its 75th year. Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe and Cici Dempsey were producers on 'The Favourite', whilst Robbie Ryan acted as cinematographer.

'The Favourite' is the third movie to be produced by Element Pictures with Yorgos Lanthimos, the other two being 'The Lobster' with Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz and John C. Reilly, and 'The Killing Of A Sacred Deer' with Nicole Kidman, Barry Keoghan and Colin Farrell once again.

The movie follows the love triangle that developed between Queen Anne, Abigail Masham and Sarah Churchill, played by Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz respectively. The movie goes on release here in Ireland on January 1st, 2019.
