In an e-mail sent to entertainment.ie earlier today, Irish chain IMC Cinemas confirmed that it is closing its doors from Monday morning and will reopen on Sunday, March 29th.
While many cinemas have enacted social distancing measures and stepped up cleaning measures, such as providing hand sanitisers, IMC Cinemas has gone a step further and cancelled all screenings for the next two weeks.
Meanwhile, several new movie releases have been postponed until further notice, such as 'Mulan', 'A Quiet Place, Part II' and 'Peter Rabbit 2'.
Currently, government guidelines state that indoor gatherings of over 100 people are discouraged, with many cinemas opting to halve seating arrangements and giving people empty seats either side to ensure the WHO recommended 1-metre social distancing.
However, Acting Taoiseach Leo Varadkar indicated earlier today that he is considering stepping up measures to ensure venues - pubs, especially - are keeping to the guidelines for indoor gatherings, including potentially ordering pubs to close until the 29th.
