While we were deeply saddened to hear it confirmed that Will Smith would definitely not be returning to the Independence Day sequel, the news that Jeff Goldblum is getting his apocalyptic-computery shoes on once more has somewhat softened the blow. We're excited to see his skillz when you think of technological advancements that have occured since the first movie's release. No more big desktop PCs that, in the words of Lena Dunham's Girls' character, look like dog houses.

It's also a goer that Bill Pullman is returning as the man in the White House, but sure you already knew that. This still leaves the floor open for one major A-Lister to fill the presence of Mr Smith. Someone needs to carry this movie, but who will it be? Wouldn't it be interesting to see this movie break the moulds of the classic Hollywood action, save-the-day blockbuster? How about imagining a woman in such a role? Angelina? Scarlett Johansson? Will Smith's right hand woman, Jada?

While he said a while back that he just isn't arsed with blockbusters anymore, Emmerich revealed that Big Willy won't be returning as his star has become so huge, they just cannot afford him. Like you think he'd have made enough millions at this stage to say 'OK, I'll do it for a few million less than the youge, 'cause really I don't need it, 'cause I've got so much money stacked up I could probably plaster my plethora of gargantuan gaffs in 500 Dollar bills, so maybe I'll just get involved because this is the movie that projected me to the big leagues in the FIRST place, and maybe it's not just always all about the Benjamins.' Come ON Will, stop being such a d*ck; be the cool guy we know and love and saw come to life on Graham Norton's couch, and star in this God damn movie.

Director Roland Emmerich is still hopeful that he'll make a quick cameo, however. If it comes to fruition, we sure hope there'll be dancing involved.
