How much would you pay for a piece of historical movie memorabilia? $480,000? Seems about right. This is how much Judy Garland's famous blue and white gingham pinafore dress from The Wizard of Oz went for, y'know, the one she wore with those magical red shoes.

As per the BBC, this figure was in line with what Julien's Auctions of Beverley Hills were expecting for Adrian Greenberg's design. While this may seem a lot, it pales in comparison with what Marilyn Monroe's white 'subway dress' fetched ($4.6m). This dress dates back to the 1955 film, The Seven Year Itch. It's also miles behind Audrey Hepburn's Ascot dress from My Fair Lady which sold for $3.7m.

The buyer remains anonymous but we reckon they ought to be quite the fan of either Judy Garland or the MGM hit, The Wizard of Oz.

Also sold on the day was that famous green floral dress worn by Julie Andrwe in The Sound of Music. This went for $38,400. What's the one piece of movie memorabilia you'd like to get your hands on? And how much would you splash out for it?
