In case you didn't know, Gremlins 3 is still happening and, by all accounts, it's still on track.

Original star Zach Galligan offered an update in recent days, explaining that original writer Chris Columbus is aiming to direct a script from Red Eye writer Carl Ellsworth.

As Galligan explained in a public Q&A, the film will be "something along the lines of Jurassic World, where it will be 30 years later" and, of course, feature plenty of references and nods to the original. It would seem that studios are getting wise to the idea that reboots and remakes aren't going over with fans in the same way.

Something like Gremlins, for example, just wouldn't work as a reboot. How could it? Better that it be a wry, smartly funny nod to the original while continuing the story onward with modern references.

For example, we're aiming to see a Gremlin use an iPhone and send a selfie of himself to someone. We're also looking forward to seeing a Hipster Gremlin in the same way we had the Suit Gremlin from the originals.

Gizmo will obviously have to feature - or, failing that, something just as cute as Gizmo.

No release date has been set for Gremlins 3 nor has any kind of firm commitment to get the film made, but it would seem like there's a lot of goodwill out there for it.
