Hollywood are all about the ensemble casts at the mo. As if the line-up for Warner Bros. cop movie The Gangster Squad couldn't get any better, they've gone and added Avatar’s Giovanni Ribisi to list.
Also starring in this hit in the making are Ryan Gosling (mmm yes please) Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker), Josh Brolin (True Grit) and Michael Pena (The Good Doctor). According to Empire Online, these bucks will play the honest coppers who are changed with the mission of taking down newly arrived mobster/gambler Mickey Cohen played by the always awesome, Sean Penn.
As per Deadline, Ribisi is down to play Conway Keeler, a tech expert enlisted to help the team with surveillance on their chosen targets. As pointed out by Empire, if you're a fan of The Wire, you'll probably want to keep an eye out for this one.
Although his days playing Phoebe's sex mad brother Frank on Friends are long gone, Ribisi continues to add comic roles to his repetoire. He is currently shooting his part in Seth McFarlane’s comedy Ted. Also in the can is The Rum Diary with Johnny Depp which is done and dusted but awaiting it's release.
According to Empire, Gangster Squad is now in pre-production but an official release date has yet to be confirmed.
