'Furiosa' marks the fifth movie in the 'Mad Max' franchise and it looks like it'll be the biggest movie in the series yet, surpassing even 'Fury Road'.

As previously announced, Anya Taylor-Joy will play the titular heroine. The character, whose full name is Imperator Furiosa, was previously played by Charlize Theron.

The 'Queen's Gambit' star is not the only big name in the cast either.

Chris Hemsworth, who is currently filming 'Thor: Love and Thunder' in Sydney, co-stars in an undisclosed role.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, whose credits include 'Aquaman', 'The Trial of the Chicago 7' and the upcoming 'Matrix 4', also stars.

New South Wales state Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced that 'Furiosa' will be "the largest film ever to be filmed" in NSW.

The film is set to bring in at least $350 million into the state’s economy and create 850 jobs.

Director George Miller compared the feature to its predecessor, which was primarily shot in Africa.

"Whereas 'Fury Road' essentially happened over three days and two nights, this happens over many years," he told The Syndney Morning Herald.

"You try to make films that are ‘uniquely familiar’.

"This will be familiar to those people who know 'Mad Max', and in particular 'Fury Road', but also it will be unique."

Miller is currently on post-production on 'Three Thousand Years of Longing', starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton.

He plans to start shooting 'Furiosa' next year once work on that is finished.

He also described 'Furiosa' as "a story that I can’t wait to see in a cinema."

Its release date is June 23rd, 2023.
