The highly anticipated big screen adaptation of E.L. James' Fifty Shades of Grey has been hit with a high rating in the UK.

The BBFC, who rate films in Britain, have slapped the kinky flick with a rare '18' rating citing "strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behavior and graphic nudity, and for language." This once again brings the debate of violence and sex in films to the fore. Action film 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' which is extremely violent (all be it in a cartoonish way) was given a 15 cert by the British censor. We liked it anyway.

The 18 rating is highly unlikely to hurt the box office of the Jamie Doran and Dakota Johnson starring flick too much - pre-sales of tickets are already through the roof.

The Irish version, The IFCO, have yet to rate the film; but Kingsman had a higher rating of 16 here so we'd expect an 18 cert also.
