As per Deadline, Elton John is to become the focus of the fantasy musical biopic Rocketman. The film is said to combine the true story of John's life with fantastical elements from his songs. The screenplay will be written by Lee Hall (who wrote Billy Elliot) and executive produced by the Rocketman himself however no director has been chosen as of yet. Rocketman will chart the singer/songwriter's life from his early days as a child piano prodigy through his days wearing some questionable styles of spectacles to his life in the present day.
"Rocketman will be a radically different kind of biopic," says Rocket Pictures' Steve Hamilton Shaw (Deadline). "It will be as unique as Elton's life, told in a non-linear and hyper-visual manner that will transport people through the many intense experiences, some wonderful, some not, that helped define Elton as an artist, musician and man."
While this is the first time that John will be the subject of an on-screen creation, the star is no stranger to this kind of success. He executive produced Gnomeo and Juliet, which grossed $190 million worldwide earlier this year. And who could forget his musical involvement in The Lion King back in 1994? According to Comingsoon.net, thanks to a spangly new 3D re-release, The Lion King is currently number one at the box office. So if these two releases weren't quite enough to satisfy your apetite for Elton John numbers this year, then Rocketman ought to do the trick.
But who shall play the star? Hmmm.
