Edward Norton is in advanced negotiations to take the villain role opposite Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz in The Bourne Legacy, according to Variety.

Series writer Tony Gilroy will direct the film, which will launch a new character that doesn't involve Matt Damon's Jason Bourne/David Webb - or at least that's what the best guess is. Damon always said he wouldn't come back without Paul Greengrass, but I wouldn't be shocked to see a slightly extended cameo. It's not clear if Norton will play another shady government type, but it's probably likely given the franchise history. Regardless, it's cracking casting all around.

A release date in August of next year has been set, so it will begin shooting within weeks rather than months.
