ICYMI, Tom Cruise’s critically acclaimed sci fi feature Edge of Tomorrow is getting a sequel.

The title of the film will be Live Die Repeat and Repeat (the film was renamed to Live Die Repeat in several areas for its home release) and both Cruise and Emily Blunt will return to their respective roles.

Director Doug Liman has said that the series will consist of “a two-movie franchise”, namely no extended cinematic universe a la Marvel, DC, Dark Universe or Star Wars to be had here.

Basically, the sequel will be the last so it’s good to see they’re not milking the cow for all its worth.

According to Den of Geek, Liman talked to MTV about the sequel and said: “I think what people tend to do with sequels is they just make them bigger. And I’m like ‘no, a sequel should be smaller.

“You did the first film as sort of the ad campaign for the sequel, so now you don’t need as much action, and in the case of Edge Of Tomorrow, people obviously loved the comedy and they loved the situation. So we can do way more focus on Tom’s character and Emily Blunt’s character, and there’s a third character in the sequel that’s going for sure steal the movie …. I don’t need an action sequence every two minutes”.

There’s been no word yet on who’ll be playing this third character or what the character will be but watch this space.
