He might be about to star in a Harry Potter spin off but Eddie Redmayne admits that he'd always had regrets about not landing a role in the original franchise.

The Oscar winner recently admitted to Empire magazine that he actually auditioned to play role of young Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

"I actually auditioned to play Tom Riddle while I was at university,"

That's right, the man who's playing Newt Scamander almost played Voldemort.

Well maybe 'almost played' isn't the correct term. As Redmayne says himself, the audition didn't go all that well.

"I properly failed and didn't get a callback." Ouch. Hopefully he wasn't too cut up about it?

"A lot of my friends, like Domhnall Gleeson and Rob Pattinson, got their Harry Potter moment, but I never got mine."

Oh dear, it does sound like it did get to him for a while. Luckily for him though, he's now the lead in his own spinoff franchise which is far more than either Pattinson or Gleeson got out of being part of the Harry Potter Universe.
