Drew Barrymore is apparently on a short-list of directors to helm the third film in the Twilight franchise, Eclipse. According to Empire, the producers of the series want the sequels lined up as quickly as possible, so when one film wraps, the next will be ready to roll, having already been developed. The second film, New Moon, is scheduled to start shooting in a couple of weeks, with The Golden Compass director Paul Weitz calling the shots. Barrymore just made her directorial debut with the Ellen Page starring Whip It, which was also an adaptation of a book, so would seem like a solid choice, depending on how that film turned out, of course. It's kind of a smart move on the part of the studio if she is chosen; it's bags more publicity, and if Barrymore is a good director as well, it could all turn out hunky-dory.
