We've shaken off our Monday blues with the news that we've been waiting for to finally get a confirmation.

Picture the scene - this Christmas we'll all be sitting in packed cinema theatres with our parents, grandparents, and anyone else who will join us for 'Downton Abbey 2'. The magic of it all.

We've received confirmation this afternoon that the highly-anticipated sequel will be on our screens at the end of the year.

While the movie sequel to the 2019 movie, which itself was based on the TV series of the same name, had not been 100% confirmed, we're happy to report that the light has been lit green. And not only will Simon Curtis be back to direct, he'll be bringing with him some new cast members too.

Joining Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter, Laura Carmichael and the rest of the all-star cast will be Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West.

The character's first appearance in film followed a Royal Visit to the Crawley family and Downton staff from the King and Queen of England. It then ended with a ball fitting for the Royal Family.

'Downton Abbey' creator Julian Fellowes will once again write the film’s screenplay, with Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning Gareth Neame and Emmy Award-winning Liz Trubridge back to produce alongside Fellowes.

There's been no official date set for the release of 'Downton Abbey 2', but the movie will be in cinema theatres in time for Christmas.
