An interesting development for the DC Comics world this evening, as it's been announced that director Doug Liman is now leaving Marvel's X-Men spin-off Gambit starring Channing Tatum, and heading over to DC to do Justice League Dark with Warner Bros.
While it's unfortunate that Gambit loses yet another director (Rupert Wyatt dropped out due to scheduling difficulties), it's an intriguing development for the Justice League movie. It was previously thought that Guillermo del Toro would helm the flick, but that never came into fruition. The Pans Labyrinth director would have undoubtedly left his mark on the project but the news that Doug Liman is now the driving force, the director behind The Bourne Identity and The Edge of Tomorrow (and Swingers, for fans of the cult classic), suggests it will be a much more action-driven flick.
For those that need a refresher in their comic book films, the Justice League comprises of those heavy-hitter superheroes like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman (that movie is due out in 2017). However the Justice League Dark are some of the lesser known characters from the D.C universe who would deal in more supernatural threats to mankind. It's made up of Constantine, Swamp Thing, Etrigan the Demon and Zatanna
Michael Gilio will be on scriptwriting duties for Justice League Dark, while Scott Rudin is set to produce.
