Vin Diesel has somehow managed to get Universal to put up the clams for another Riddick film, despite Pitch Black only being a modest hit and The Chronicles of Riddick being considered a flop on account of a hefty budget.

The films do have a cult following, and its thought that Diesel and writer/director David Twohy will scale back on the budget in order to get the film made. While there is no word on any possible plot, the downsizing in scale will hopefully come with the addition of some much-needed character work.

Diesel will shoot the film after he finishes work on Fast and Furious 5. The fourth film in that franchise was the biggest hit Universal had last year.
