Leonardo DiCaprio has signed on to star for director Mel Gibson in an epic production, based around Vikings. The Departed's writer William Monahan, and producer Graham King will also be involved in the same capacities.

According to Variety, King was the man who got the two together to discuss future projects, and the Viking epic was one they quickly agreed on. Naturally, absolutely nothing is known about the plot, but the film will shoot in August of next year. Producer King spewed: "This will be an awe-inspiring story, created with some of the industry’s finest cinematic talent, and I am just over the moon to be making this film with Mel, Leo and Bill."

Sounds like a box-office made in heaven, as Gibson will fund the film himself, and then sell it to a studio afterwards, just like he did with The Passion. DiCaprio will next be seen in Shutter Island in February, while Gibson headlines his first film since Signs with Edge of Darkness in a few months.
