Ever since Deadpool went on to be the surprise Box Office phenomenon of the year (it's currently set to be the 6th highest grossing movie of 2016), a sequel has been in the works.

And given that he was largely hinted at in the film's post credits sequence, it's safe to assume that time travelling mutant, Cable is set to make his first ever big screen appearance in the film.

Many fans have given their two cents on who should play Cable, with Stephen Lang and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, both appearing in many lists. However, there are strong rumours to suggest that the writers of the sequel have someone else in mind for the part and haven't been looking beyond that name.

ComicBook.com spoke with Mashable's Jeff Sneider recently and he offered up one name for the part.

"There’s been a name floating around for Cable for months. Hasn’t changed. Don’t know if it’s changed. Didn’t make any calls about this. This was just the name that has been out there for months. So take this with a gigantic grain of salt. The biggest grain of salt your tiny little brain can imagine. The name that is floating around for Cable right now is Kyle Chandler.”

Emmy Award Winner, Chandler has been building up quite an impressive body of work over the better part of the last decade. Currently starring on Netflix's Bloodline, he's also had roles in awards heavy hitters like The Wolf of Wall Street, Argo, Zero Dark Thirty and Carol. He's also got a big role opposite Casey Affleck in Manchester by the Sea, which is tipped to be a big contender in next year's Oscar race.

Of course Friday Night Light fans will claim to be fans of Chandler way before he was cool. Real fans of Chandler though, will remember him from Early Edition.

While there is nothing official just yet, Chandler as Cable is definitely something we can 100% get behind because he's consistently been brilliant in everything he's in. A fan has already drawn up a sketch of what Chandler could look like as the character.

The same report that suggests Chandler is in contention for Cable has also said that mutant Domino will also be involved in the sequel. Canadian actress MacKenzie Davis being the name being mentioned for that role.
