Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ruled the roost at the North American box-office this passing weekend, as the extremely well reviewed sequel took $73 million over its first three days of release.

Cloverfield and Let Me In director Matt Reeves took over helming duties this time out, while (the always awesome) Jason Clarke took over lead actor duties from James Franco; with Andy Serkis returning as alpha ape, Caesar.

Other noteworthy release was the excellent Boyhood, with bowed in a limited number of screens and also opened here this passing weekend. The tally for the production that took 12 years to make was an impressive $359,000 from just five locations in the US. Expect that one to have long legs and become part of the awards talk as the year closes.
