David Fincher is apparently still very interested in directing a huge budgeted version of Cleopatra with Angelina Jolie in the titular role, and has tasked his Benjamin Button writer, Joe Roth, with writing the script, reports Variety.

Fincher is still the most in-demand, and talented director working in modern mainstream cinema, and should've won an Oscar for his work on The Social Network last year. He's obviously worked with Jolie's husband, Brad Pitt, numerous times before and is probably a family friend. Initially, Jolie was looking at James Cameron to direct the film in 3D, but he got busy gearing up for Avatar sequels. Fincher is currently putting the finishing touches to his remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Any film Fincher makes is worth checking out, and an epic, huge budgeted Cleopatra would certainly be that. If it's held together this long, it could very well happen.
