N17 years after it was first released, '28 Days Later' still stands up as one of the most original zombie films ever made.

Danny Boyle's 2002 film revolutionised the genre, made Cillian Murphy a star and is generally hailed as a seriously good horror movie.

The same goes for the 2007 sequel '28 Weeks Later', which picked up the story of the mysterious virus that had ravaged Britain and how society was coping, 28 weeks on from the outbreak.

If you've been champing at the bit for a third installment - possibly '28 Months Later'? - there's good news.

Director Danny Boyle has confirmed that he and screenwriter Alex Garland, who worked together on the first film, are re-teaming for the next film.

During promo for his new film 'Yesterday', he said: "Alex Garland and I have a wonderful idea for the third part. It’s properly good. The original film led to a bit of a resurgence in the zombie drama and it doesn’t reference any of that.

"It doesn’t feel stale at all. He’s concentrating on directing his own work at the moment, so it’s stood in abeyance really, but it’s a you-never-know."

So, no concrete plans as such - but with the idea being developed, we live in hope that a third film will eventually see the light of day.
